Chantal Poulin Durocher, a renowned Canadian artist, has been painting for over 30 years and has recently relocated to Panama. From her early beginnings as an artist, Chantal has always been surrounded by animals, who have served as a constant source of inspiration throughout her artistic journey. With a childhood filled with guinea pigs, ducks, dogs, and cats, Chantal's connection to the animal kingdom runs deep. Her passion for animals led her to rescue and care for numerous orphaned raccoons, squirrels, rabbits, and dogs. Now living in Panama and Costa Rica with her husband, Chantal shares her home with 12 rescued dogs, contributing to her profound understanding of the challenges faced by stray and abandoned animals in the region. Motivated by her love for animals and a desire to bring attention to their beauty and vulnerability, Chantal embarked on a mission to raise awareness about the exploitation of animals through her art. While her earlier works primarily focused on capturing the innocence and playfulness of children with their beloved animal companions, her recent experiences and a newfound understanding of animal rights have elevated her art to a new level of purpose and meaning. Chantal's paintings aim to evoke empathy, showcasing the sensitivity, beauty, and shared vulnerability of animals often exploited for human pleasure and material gain. Chantal's artistic evolution reflects her personal journey towards compassion and ethical choices. After reading "Diet for a New America" by John Robbins, she made the decision to stop cooking meat for her loved ones, recognizing the unnecessary suffering inflicted upon animals. Further research and exposure to thought-provoking works such as the film "Earthlings" and Melanie Joy's book "Why We Love Dogs, Eat Pigs and Wear Cows" led Chantal and her family to embrace a vegan lifestyle. Through her art, Chantal Poulin Durocher hopes to contribute to the ongoing shift in society's perception and treatment of animals. By painting animals with love, patience, skill, and compassion, she aims to alleviate the pain caused by the atrocities they endure.
