Nine million dairy cows live in factory farming operations in the United States.
Of the 9 million per year, 3-4% become "downed" dairy cows. 270,000 cows experience this crippling demise and are then dragged to slaughter after spending their entire lives being impregnated and forced to milk for humans.
To maintain a steady supply of milk, these cows are forced to give birth every year for about three to four years until they are no longer able to produce enough milk to make them financially justifiable to the dairy industry. They are then sent to slaughter.
All dairy cows eventually end up at slaughter; both the dairy and beef industries feed into the same system. The abuse wreaked upon the bodies of female dairy cows is so intense that many of these cows become “downed.” This term refers to cows that are so sick and/or injured that they are unable to walk or even stand.
We all want a more humane world where animals are treated with kindness and respect. It starts with loving choices.
Instead of dairy - try oat milk! There are many vegan and plant-based options to choose from. Your body & heart will thank you and so will the animals.
