Every year in the US, millions of farm animals, including 4 million broiler chickens, 726,000 pigs, and 29,000 cattle, die during transport. These animals are often deprived of food, water, and bedding while packed so tightly in trucks that they are unable to rest or move, leading to trampling, fighting, and serious injury or death.

Truck drivers are only required to stop animal transport trucks once every 28 hours, but this law is rarely enforced. To save costs and maximize profits, animals are often transported for up to 48 hours without food or water, causing extreme stress and suffering.

Factory farms cram as many animals as possible into each truck, often using cruel methods to force them inside. Animals are packed so tightly that they have no room to move, sit or lie down, resulting in exhaustion, dehydration, and disease. In extreme temperatures, such as during winter, animals can suffer frostbite, hypothermia, and even death due to a lack of protection from the elements.

These conditions are not only cruel and inhumane but also pose significant health risks to the animals, including transport-related sickness and death. It is essential that transportation regulations are re-evaluated and strictly enforced to ensure that animals are provided with proper care, food, water, and protection during transport. As consumers, we can also make a difference by adopting a plant-based diet.
