Pennsylvania-based producer and composer Mel Fromm Jr. is known for crafting emotionally resonant and globally conscious music that uplifts and inspires. His featured track on The Compassion Project, “One Heart One Planet We’ll Be Alright Now,” is a dance-infused call to unity and planetary healing. In this interview, Mel shares the story of how a heartfelt letter sparked his musical journey, how his faith fuels his creativity, and what drives his mission to amplify indie talent around the world.

Was there something or someone who was the "catalyst" for you to go into music? My wife, Perchita, from the Philippines, and I first started dating, and early on, I wrote her a heartfelt letter expressing my feelings. As I read it back, I realized—it sounded like a song. That moment sparked my journey into songwriting. I turned those emotions into lyrics, and soon, I found a recording studio that helped bring two songs to life from that special letter: “What I Feel” and “True Love.” As the songs gained momentum, I connected with a Canadian DJ who not only became my biggest supporter but also a cherished best friend. He invited me on his show many times, featuring my music and giving it radio airplay around the world. His belief in my work meant everything, and his weekly calls to check in on my latest songs became something I truly looked forward to. Although he passed away a few years ago, I thank God every day for the incredible friendship we shared—a friendship built on music, encouragement, and the love of creating something meaningful.

Let's get this out of the way. What is the craziest thing that has ever happened in your music career? The wildest twist in my music career has been transitioning from writing lyrics to learning how to produce and compose instrumental tracks. Thanks to the guidance of talented mentors, my music has been playing in malls and stores across Singapore since 2018 and has secured placements in numerous music libraries. In 2024, I took things further by collaborating with a Pennsylvania studio, working alongside some of the best indie artists across the state. My mission has been to help these talented musicians reach a global audience through my SoundCloud page—and the results have been incredible. Everything has truly taken off, and I’m endlessly grateful to God for this journey.

What has been the highlight of your music path? During a difficult time with my mom, Wilma, as doctors struggled to understand her heart condition, I turned to faith and found solace in music. That journey led to the creation of the song “I Just Lay It At Your Feet,” featuring PA-Sacred Offering and PA-Levi Carter. The song carries a powerful message about surrendering our burdens to God, and its impact has been remarkable. It has gained widespread radio play, including on Nashville stations, and we’ve received incredible feedback from listeners who shared how the song has touched and helped them. It was nominated for Song of the Year (2025) on a West Coast radio station and ranked as the #10 song on Indie Talk Premieres' April Edition of Best Emerging Artist Show's Top 10 Artist Awards. In the UK, it made history by securing the top radio audition spot out of millions in just weeks. Most excitingly, the song has caught the attention of Reba McEntire and her team, who are now closely following my music. Through it all, God's grace prevailed—after a medical procedure, my mom's heart returned to normal, astonishing doctors with its strength at 89 years young. That’s the power of God.

How do you approach songwriting or what is your creative process like? Each day, I bring in song ideas and stylistic directions, while the Pennsylvania studio connects us with top indie musicians and vocalists. Together, we collaborate on lyrics and composition, and if a song resonates with us, we record it. Ultimately, I make the final call on whether it reaches the global stage on my SoundCloud page. With the ability to record up to 15 songs a day, our output is immense. If a song performs well globally on SoundCloud, our studio’s music scouts step in to guide the artists to the next level in their careers. My music production has surpassed anything I ever imagined—crafting major artist-quality tracks while continuously discovering and uplifting incredible new indie artists.

Do you have a new release? We release fresh music every day, featuring around 15 new songs that highlight the incredible indie talent across Pennsylvania.

If you could share the stage or a song session with an artist, who would it be? I’m truly blessed to have worked alongside some of the best indie teams in music. Right now, I’m grateful for where I am, but I’m also eager to see where God leads me next—it’s exciting to think about what the future holds.

For fans who have never heard your music, how would you describe your sound? The moment you press play on one of my tracks, you're not just hearing music—you're stepping into a fully immersive sonic universe. Right now, we're bringing together a dynamic mix of hip-hop, dance, country, and rock, crafting a sound that knows no boundaries.

What is your favorite part about being an artist? Is it songwriting, performing, producing...something else? The part of music I love most is the creative journey—dreaming up new song ideas, composing melodies, collaborating with incredible indie talent, and bringing it all to life through production. Watching a song evolve from concept to a fully realized masterpiece is pure magic.

When you are not doing music, what else do you enjoy doing? When I'm not making music, I enjoy practicing Tai Chi, taking peaceful walks in nature to recharge, and spending quality time with my family. Whenever possible, I love to travel and explore new places. Every day, outside of my music, I make sure to pause and give thanks to God for all the blessings in my life.

What is coming up in the future for you? Looking ahead, I plan to continue collaborating with the Pennsylvania studio, working with the best indie talent across the state. My goal is to showcase their incredible artistry on my SoundCloud page and help give them the global recognition they deserve. I'm also deeply excited to see where God leads me next in life.
