Austin, TX – Internationally acclaimed composer and vocalist S. J. Jananiy joins The Compassion Project: Songs for Animal, Human, and Earth Justice with her deeply moving Tamil-language track, “Oar Vidhaiyaai” (“As a Seed”). The album, releasing September 5 via Artists & Activists Records, is a global musical tribute to justice, compassion, and interconnection across all living beings.
In “Oar Vidhaiyaai,” Jananiy lends voice to a tree pleading with humankind not to cut it down. The song, a poignant conversation between nature and man, captures the heartbreaking beauty and quiet resistance of a being that gives all it has — shade, fruit, firewood — and still begs to be spared. The lyrics reflect the interconnectedness of life and the devastating environmental consequences of human action. Its message is urgent and universal: protect the Earth before it is too late. The piece is a masterful blend of Carnatic expression and cinematic storytelling, and showcases Jananiy’s emotive vocal delivery and deep reverence for nature.
About S. J. Jananiy S. J. Jananiy is an Indian national and multi-global-award-winning film composer, vocalist, producer, and recording artist based in Chennai. She is a Grammy® voting member and an “A Grade” artist of All India Radio, with more than 90 albums spanning genres from Carnatic and Hindustani classical to pop, world, devotional, and film scores.
She has collaborated with renowned orchestras including the Bulgarian National Radio Symphony Orchestra and is a recipient of the National Award (Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar), the Kalai Maamani Award, 10 Global Music Awards, and numerous honors from the U.S., Europe, and India. Jananiy recently scored the 2024 Tamil feature film Rail and contributed vocals to the Grammy-nominated album The Fury.
Her viral mantras have reached millions on social platforms, and her meditative and activist work continues to uplift global audiences. She is the founder of 3 Dot Recording Studios and the JSJ Audio Label.
